In stock now – Hablitzia Tamnoides – Caucasian Spinach is a very hardy semi shade loving perennial climber with mild edible spinach type leaves. The young shoots can be eaten as well as pickings throughout spring and summer from the more mature leaves.
Seeds can be sown in Autumn to early Spring. Plants can reach 8-10ft tall, (2-3m) in height and need something to scramble up. They produce very decorative flowers in late summer which in turn produce tiny black seeds. The foliage dies back over winter and in the spring a crown of baby shoots emerge producing new growth. Grow at least two plants together to get viable seed. They take time to establish but really go for it by their third year.
Leaves can be used in all kinds of dishes – very versatile and tasty green leaves. We make ‘Habfritzias’ – little Hablitza leaf fritters.
Hablitzia seeds are in stock and can be shipped worldwide.
